Wounded as I was, I couldn't risk a fight. I stepped back into the mundane world and retreated around a corner.

Moments later, the door jiggled a little, then opened. From your vantage point you see something that strikes you to the core. There are two figures, one appears to be made of fallen leaves and twigs and milkweed fluff, the other of patchwork and crocheted “granny squares”. They step through the Hedgeway into the mortal realm and their Masks descend.

But these are no ordinary Masks.

In place of the figures you saw are a young man and an older woman. Unlike a Changeling, these masks are impenetrable, the figures you saw in the Hedge may as well have vanished, replaced by what for all intents and purposes appear to be humans.

There’s more than one Fetch in Maize.

I was tempted to shadow them. But, the pain in my leg told me that was a bad idea. Besides, Tiffani was waiting. I studied their faces as best I could, then left for the park.
