[D4 LE] Pop Up: A Spot of Tea

Post by GhostWolfe » Mon Jan 20, 2020 10:24 am

The door to Steve’s room is open, spilling light out into the parking lot. Despite the chill, Steve is pottering about as if it were the height of summer. The craggy elemental has his feet up, stripping the small heart-shaped leaves from a small bundle of sprigs, dropping them into a bowl on his lap and flicking the bare twigs out the door when he is done with them.

Jonathan entered into Steven's room, smiling at him as he arrived, ducking his head ever so slightly as he entered to avoid hitting the door while looking down upon the twigs. "Evening, sir." He

"You seem to be comfortable. Enjoying the fine weather, are we?"

Of course he was not being serious: it was fucking cold. Even as one of Autumn, he could not get used to this weather. And to think, this place could get even colder come winter proper! Give me the muggy bayou any day...

The elemental shrugged, "I don't feel much of the cold any more these days." His thick, blunt fingers pinched a twig, pulling the sprig through the fingers of his other hand, detaching the leaves. He flicked the bare twig and it sailed through the door and fell on the edge of the walkway, teetered a little, and fell in the gutter. "Hot cup of this will fix you right up, take a seat."

"You and those of Winter are lucky in that regard. Half tempted to see if the Hedge is warmer than here." He chuckles a little bit at his attempt at humor and sits down. "Thanks. Good cup should help me sleep tonite."

"Still, wouldn't be too bad if we had a proper fire place here; would really set the feel of the season."

Steve offered a sort of chuckle, more of a humph, really. "This whole place'd burn down. Maybe the TV has one of those fireplace channels." He shrugged and heaved himself to his feet, crossing to the coffee-pod-machine and turning it on. While it warmed up, he took out two mugs and added some of the leaves he'd been plucking, crushing them between his fingertips.

"Oh yes, I saw that just last year for the Christmas season. I swear, I do not understand this age and their obsession with watching people sitting around fireplaces. It's not even there, but on one of their little portable screens."

He looks on at the coffee machine and nods. "Just got one of those a few weeks ago. Marvelous machine. Used to have to sit around for a good while and let the pot warm up on the stove. Now we have...convenience."

The machine beeped and Steve put the first mug under the spout, filling it with hot water. A minty aroma rose from the mug as steam lifted the scent of the leaves. The elemental filled the second mug as well and brought them both over, handing the first one, the one that had had a chance to steep a little already, to Jonathan. "Coupnettle," he said, "that'll perk you right up."

He smiled and accepted the goblin-fruit tea. "Smells divine." He nodded and placed the cup down for a moment to let it cool just a little; he couldn't handle it piping hot.

"So, how goes your hunt for your fetch?"

“The trouble with fetches,” Steve wrapped a large, rocky hand around his own mug, “is you can’t surprise ‘em.” His other hand tapped against the arm of his chair. “He hasn’t tried to run yet. I think he wants this as much as I do.”

Coupnettle is slightly bitter, with a refreshing citrus-mint flavour. It restores a single point of Willpower.

"Those damn things often don't even realize what they are. It's truly a tragedy for all parties involved." He shakes his head and attempts to drink the tea a little with a small sip before placing it back down. Still too hot for me.

"Does not absolve them, and they need to die for it, regardless...but it's no fun when they don't realize their sins. Makes you feel a sense of pity for them and their situation, and that makes the task ahead of you that much more difficult." Jon places his hands on the tea cup again to warm up his chilled hands. It brought him back to his home and his own situation. A small part of him wish he could show it mercy, given the situation.

That part was quietly squelched within him a moment later. "You think he'll call you out, then? Like one of those western serials?"
