[Marlowe Phillips]

"Did you ever wonder what happened when we went missing?" I asked. "I was hired to find a girl. It didn't take long. Seemed like the typical story of a rebellious teen. I found her and brought her home. Everyone was happy."

"It doesn't usually work that way." I explained. "Teens fight to stay independent or are terrified of going home. Parents are angry, disappointed or ashamed. No one is simply happy."

"It bugged me. Something felt wrong in my gut, and I kept looking." I gave a heavy sigh. "That's how I was noticed."

[Reina Silva]

"Mm... I know a private investigator like you, with a similar story, but maybe it seemed a little less weird since the kid they were looking for was seven at the time," she mused. "So you kept looking, and something looked back."

[Marlowe Phillips]

"That's what happens when you peer to deeply inti the shadows." I emptied my cup and set it aside.

[Reina Silva]

"I had a bad habit of exploring hidden places near where I lived when I have little," she said after a silence. "Do that enough, you'll eventually find something."

"I can imagine." I resisted the urge to mention falling down rabbit holes. "It isn't easy, no matter how you get there."
