There is a small rustle, and a hedgehog ambled out from between the stalks. It stopped and looked up at Marlowe, its eyes bright and lively and black. It looked, aside from how it was staring at you, like a perfectly mundane, adorable little hedgehog. It didn't sport massive, otherworldly claws, its spines didn't drip with lethal venom. It's cute little nose wiggled.

Then it spoke.

The voice that came from the tiny hedgehog was deep and gravelly, and far too large for the little creature. "Marlowe," it greeted the Changeling by name, "there's a bounty on your head, and I've come to collect. I'll be with you soon." The hedgehog shook itself, glancing around in surprise as the Huntsman hold over it was released. It turned and darted away into the corn.

That was an unexpected development. I watched the creature leave and looked around.

As the hedgehog disappeared, you noticed something strange. The corn was ripe and dry, heavy on the stalks. The ears were starting to peel, more than ready to be harvested. In the mundane world the process would begin in a hour or two from now, but it was uncertain what would happen to the Hedge corn. Marlowe saw that one of the ears had dried up more than the others, exposing almost the entire cob beneath.

At first, Marlowe didn’t know what it was that drew his attention, but then it clicked. It wasn’t obvious, but faint traces of a red fluid were visible between the white kernels.

"We definitely need to learn what the deal is with this corn." I took a close look at an ear. "This is like the vision I had."
