[D3 EA] Event: The Corn Festival - Corn-Eating Contest
Posted: Fri Jan 17, 2020 7:16 am
Participants: Unlimited
Contracts: Encouraged
Maize has all but shut down for the Corn Festival, a day of celebration ahead of the harvest that will begin the following day. It is held at the Maize City Park, in the town’s north-east. Children do not have school, and many businesses have closed doors to either run stalls at the Festival, or take a well-earned break. There’s cheap carnival food, and plenty of games to play. The central event, however, is the corn-eating contest at lunchtime. Sweetcorn is harvested earlier than the white corn that Maize primarily grows, and the Council purchases a generous quantity of the fresh, delicious ears for the Festival each year.
Characters who choose the Corn-Eating Contest cannot play any other festival games.
Take an extended Stamina + Resolve Action. Instead of a target number, you are rolling to accumulate as many successes as possible. Start by rolling as many times as you have dots in Stamina. You can then continue by rolling as many times as you have dots in Resolve, but these rolls suffer a cumulative -1 penalty each. You can choose to stop at any time with the successes you have accumulated. Merits such as Hardy do not apply to these rolls.
Exceptional Success: Gain an additional attempt with the same dice pool.
Failure: Remove a Success from your total.
Dramatic Failure: You immediately stop rolling, finding yourself too sick to continue; skip the next step, taking penalties as if you’d failed the roll below.
When you have finished rolling for the extended action, make a final Stamina + Resolve roll, applying the highest penalty you reached on the extended action. Merits such as Hardy do apply to this roll.
Success: You are feeling the effects of your overindulgence. Suffer a -1 penalty on all physical rolls until you get two timeslots of sleep, this counts as having the Sick Tilt for the purposes of Merits, Contracts, etc.
Exceptional Success: You are a bastion of fortitude, you suffer no ill effects.
Failure: You overreached and now you’re paying. Suffer a -2 penalty on all physical rolls, and -1 on all other rolls until you get two timeslots of sleep, this counts as having the Sick Tilt for the purposes of Merits, Contracts, etc.
Dramatic Failure: You have made a grave miscalculation. Not only do you vomit up most of the corn, but you suffer a -3 penalty to all physical rolls, and -1 on all other rolls until you get two timeslots of sleep, this counts as having the Sick Tilt for the purposes of Merits, Contracts, etc.
Prizes: First prize is a temporary dot in Resources, this dot will vanish at the end of the game; further, you get a shiny trophy that’s shaped like an ear of corn! Second prize is a free meal at the Hometown Bar & Restaurant, plus a paperweight shaped like… an ear of corn, with the name of the town on the base. Third prize is another paperweight.
